Attacked at the Doggy Swim

I had a good & bad experience over the weekend to tell you about.

But first, I want to thank all of you who went over to my cousin Lucy's blog to say hello & welcome her to the blogging world! I knew you'd come through! My bloggy furiends are the best. And, I'd like to thank my homegirl Twix for the pawsome button she made me; check it out at the top of the sidebar!

OK, so here's what happened. Our town pool sponsors a Doggy Swim every September after the public pools have closed. I was excited when I saw the pools and the other doggies and was in a happy mood. As we made our way over to the far pool, a lady who was running the program warned us about this one dog; she said she was getting some "strange vibes" from her. Sure enough, the first doggy to approach me was that dog, and she ran up to me, took one sniff and then MAULED ME!!! My human and the other dog's human jumped in to separate us and luckily that dog hadn't broken any skin (good thing Tollers have thick double coats). Needless to say, that bitch (pun intended) and her family were booted out of there pronto. And the weirdest thing? My human realized she actually knew her owners through school! They were very apologetic and later told my human they'd been having "issues" with their dog for some time (then, why bring her to a doggy swim???!!!).

Well...once they left, I (and my Family!) calmed down and I got to enjoy the pool. I was the first one to jump in! There were all these Labs running around and none of them wanted to swim--go figure! One Lab even had a doggy life vest on...hmmmmm...methinks a lot of Lab breeders have bred out the swimming instinct in these water dogs.

One brave Lab (I left him in my wake--hee-hee!)

Here's a clip of me doin' my thing:

Tell me, have any of you been attacked for no reason by a strange dog? It's no fun! But at least we four-leggers get over it pretty quickly...I think my human is still a bit traumatized :-(

  1. Hey hey Sedona you had the whole pool to yourself! Those other 'water' doggies were not brave like you. BOL

As for getting attacked, no we haven't. BUT, the other night we were just a few blocks from home when this big yellow doggy came running out into the street at us. We could tell he wasn't nice cause he had his hackles up and was walking stiff-legged. Mom quickly pulled us to her and was about to pick us up when a man came out to get the dog. He was telling mom how the dog was nice and wouldn't pick a fight. Mom said "yeah right then why's he growling and acting like he wants to fight" She also told him to keep the dog behind a fence or on a leash!

I'm glad you weren't injured by that bad dog and the incident didn't ruin your fun. That dog's pawrents should have known better!

  2. Glad you were still able to enjoy yourself, that must have been scary when the bitch attacked you (that WAS kinda fun to type...)!

As you have seen, we are often amongst many other unleashed dogs as well. Mom says since I'm different looking (whatever) other doggies might be more prone to treat me funny - so she's always on the watch for odd behavior. It can happen so fast though! And it almost ALWAYS goes back to a bad decision by the humans, not by us doggies!

Great video. Now you momma needs to get some kind of remote-controlled duck for you to chase in the pool!

  4. Wooof! So sorry about that maulin' dog - like you said, the owners should never have brought him if he had "issues." But Sedona - you made a great day of it! How lucky you are to have a September Dog Swim day!!! And that you practically had the pool to yourself! You do yourself proud - what a pawsome swimmer you are, girl!

  5. Poor Donie (Mommy loves your nickname)

We are glad you were not hurt by that dog. We can't understand how some humans can be so stupid. Looks like the rest of your day was great fun.

  6. Hi Sedona! I am really sorry about THAT doggie. Mom teared up, as she fears those angry doggies!!!!
Mom's Golden Honey was attacked for no reason in a town nearby once. Yes, it is so much more difficult for our hoomans to get over it. (Honey was ok, but mom was so upset she quit her job in that town!!!!!)
Anyway....we saw your gift package to Golden Samantha....even got to try some of the Girl Twin cookies!!! Deeeeeeelicious!! Super sweet of you.
You are lucky to have such a great pool nearby. Hope you get to enjoy it often.

    Hugs and snaggle-tooth kisses,
    Sierra Rose

  12. Swimming Sedona!!! You are just awesome at swimming. We are sorry for your episode with that bad dog, but we are glad you were still able to enjoy the pool.

We were attacked suddenly and without any provocation by our neighbor dog one day last year when we were coming back from our walk. We were all the way up to our garage and on leashes when the golden retriever across the street bolted across the street and charged all three of us. Dakota was so surprised she just jumped back. Thunder doesn't ever want to fight so he just stood there watching. Poor Phantom got caught in the middle of the group and this dog just went at his face. The owner's son came over right away and took him home. Phantom had a couple of cuts on his face and neck and he was limping. We took him to the vet and they cleaned him up, put some stitches in one of the cuts, and x-rayed his leg. His leg was fine, just a muscle pull of some sort. When we got back, the owners came over and were all apologies and offered to pay for the bill. They promised that their dogs would never be allowed in the front again without leashes and so far that has been the case.

Hope this never happens to you again, Sedona.

  13. wow that pool looks awesome and all for you - too bad you had no freinds to swim with

yes we have been attacked - we were mauled and ended in the hospital for several weeks and mommy ended up with stitches in both arms - hands and one leg - it was no fun - so much for bully breeds being bad - we were attacked by a labradoodle

  14. Sedona, I am so sorry that you had that bad experience. How could anyone try to hurt such a sweety? Sometimes owners can be buttheads. It looked like you had a fun swim.

  15. Oh, Sedona! You poor baby! My babies haven't gotten hurt... but I have. In short - I brought Beckett out for a walk and a Doberman was acting funny; went to bite Beckett and I bent down to pick him up and got bitten instead.

    Either way - NO FUN!

I'm glad that you recovered and got to play in the pool. You are such a cutie!

  16. Sedona, I love that video of you swimming! I'm sorry you got attacked by the meanie dog.

I'm not good with other dogs... I'm not agressive, but I do charge up to other doggies and try to make them play... and that sometimes gets me in trouble. The problem is that there are no leash laws here, so though my momster can keep me away from other dogs who are leashed, she can't keep unleashed dogs away from me.

The worse one was a Great Dane - all I did was sniff her nose and she snapped at me and got me on the ear. I squealed, and flipped over on my belly. The GD owner (a lady)) tried pulling the GD back, but she had the GD on a flexilead... hum... that didn't work at all. My momster pushed the GD back and got me from up the ground. I wasn't seriously hurt, but my momster was scarred. URGH.

  17. Poor Sedona! I know what that's like. When I was little and minding my own business in our yard, a black lab on a leash yanked its person off her feet and ran over to attack me through the fence. I got my nose bitten and I've never forgotten it. I'm afraid of black dogs until I get to know them. And the black lab that bit me still jumps me any chance she gets.
