Not Quite Myself

Hi furiends,

Sorry I've been a little quiet this week...my human was busy with the kids' first days of school and yesterday and today have been a little strange for me.

Yesterday started off just like any other day, but around lunchtime I started acting a little "off"...skittish and velcro-y. My human doesn't recall any loud noises or me hurting myself on anything so she thought I might be sick. But I 've had no problem eating/drinking and have been peeing/pooping (sorry if TMI) like normal. She palpitated my entire body to see if there was any soreness but nothing. And when she gets the tennis ball out, I snap out of it and become my old retrieving-fool self outside. But when I get back inside, I get all clingy and anxious-looking again.

The weirdest thing is last night, when she let me out for my final pee of the night, I stayed out for a long time and wouldn't come back in when she called me. My human got very worried that I had somehow gotten out of our fenced back yard and started looking for me in the dark with a flashlight. She had just started searching for me when I decided to come out from wherever I was hiding. I've never done that before so it's worrisome.

I'm not lethargic, and this morning when the family came downstairs I was my usual excited self, but then I went back to the worried behavior. My human is debating whether to take me to the vet and hope whatever scared me passes.

Have any of you ever experienced this?

  2. Hi Sedona,

I have an off day every now and then. I think all doggies do. Maybe the kids going off to school, the change in routine, as you a little unsure.

  3. Oh Sedona!!
You look so sad! Are you just worried because some of you pack keeps disappearing to go to school? Hope you feel better soon so that you don't have to go to the V.E.T.!

  4. Oh no! Are you OK? My mom would probably see if the vet would talk to her on the phone and go from there. I though Brutus had a good point with the changes now that school has started. Any other changes? New detergents being used? New appliances? Carpet cleaner?
    Hope you feel better!

  6. Poor puppy... I an be very clingy and weird even at 3 y/o. I have bigtime abandonment issues from before this furever home, so when any little change in routine takes place, I watch mom and dad vigilantly, totally worried about what will happen to meeeeee. But... I would consult with vet too. I've never stayed outside for too long (unless I find the occasional apple out there). Feel better Sedona!

  7. Hey girlie! Sorry you aren't feeling yourself. I agree with AO4 about talking to the vet on the phone first. Is it possible something inside scared you or startled you that your Mom doesn't know about? My first thought was the same as others mentioned...that your kids are gone. I mean, they have been at home with you for most of your life. I get clingy sometimes and Mom says I just am in need of some "Momma Love". I hope you are back to yourself soon. I know you are worrying your momma.

  8. Hi sedona. I really too can relate to separation anxiety. When everyone moved out of my house and we moved too I didn't like anybody and was drooping around for weeks. I just missed my pack and thought the entire world was going to end. I eventually got used to being the only one left with mom and dad and learned to take advantage of the extra attention they were bestowing upon me. Mom will probably need to be with you and even go outside for your pee time to ensure you she's not going anywhere. We are all here for you!

    Hugs & smooches xoxo

  9. Sedona, I hope all is well with you now. I do have off days. I don't like my routine changed at all, ever. I get very mopey, especially if my Mommy goes away. I hope you aren't sick. Take care

  11. We are a little late getting here but we hope you are now feeling much better. Maybe you just didn't like the change in routine with the kiddos back to school.

  13. Hi Sedona!
My mom thinks this was normal puppy behavior...we go through stages of unsuredness at different times. I have pretty strange behavior sometimes too...but if all other things look ok, just our budding puppyhoods I guess...

    Hugs and snaggle-tooth kisses!
